This year, the king held his thrown… Curtis Walker strolled into the NorthStar Sports’ new facility in Page Park holding off some of the stiffest competition to date (it took a tie breaker with Dan Faison) to be named the 2012 NorthStar Sports ‘Athlete of the Year’ for the 2nd straight time.

With a new competition format that tested each athlete’s will to battle on, the group was challenged with more than just the Vertical Jump, 300 yard shuttle, bench press reps and the like. 4 ‘obstacle’ style courses were created to challenge upper body strength and stability, agility and stability, conditioning and core strength, and explosiveness and lower body strength.

27 Athletes arrived ready to get after it. Little did they know that the day would start off with a 10 minute run outside in the chilly January air. Nothing like leveling the playing field with a good cold weather run. From there the madness began, extending through 2 hours of fierce competition that sent some to the floor and others to the restroom.

We ended the day with a celebratory meal, thanks to the ever-delicious culinary work of Rossi’s Deli. It was certainly a fitting end to what has turned out to be a HUGE month for the NorthStar Sports family. The new facility is finally taking its shape, ready to give the athlete’s of the Hudson Valley elite performance training in a facility designed to shape the best.

Home Sweet Home…

The New NorthStar Sports Training Facility

As you can see we have finally taken the next step and found a home big enough to provide our athletes with everything they need to achieve their elite goals. We hope that you will pardon our appearance for the first few weeks or so while we iron out the cosmetic wrinkles of our new space. We have prepared the facility to be fully functional, training wise, but are still working on the aesthetics.

We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight for you a number of the grand upgrades we are making to this facility, which you will watch unfold before your eyes in the coming weeks, as well as what this new space can offer you athletically that we could not offer before.

At the new NorthStar, we now have the ability to train adult athletes. In the past we have been very limited in our ability to train anyone older than a college athlete. We now look forward to offering an alternative to ‘happy-hour’ where office groups, groups of friends, or just individuals come get healthier and re-energized with a training session instead of beers and greasy food. The possibilities are endless here, from yoga, palates, running classes for the weekend marathoner, or some strength and conditioning work for the frequent tennis player. We are no longer limited to just the younger crowd. This is the future of athlete training!!!

Now, to highlight the new equipment that is coming. In mid-January, we will have received all of the new equipment that has been ordered to make this space a truly elite training facility. Two new York lifting racks, two new treadmills, additional plates and weights for the racks, new stability training equipment, climbing ropes, gymnastics rings, three PowerBlock Dumbbell sets, a larger turf surface area, an additional spring jumping floor and a half basketball court are among the major equipment upgrades we are making right now.

As for cosmetics, for the open wall we have ordered personally designed fabric banners that will hang down from the beams like the banners in Madison Square Garden. The banners will each depict a silhouette of a different athlete half-toned behind a quote that we feel represents the NorthStar spirit. Upstairs, when completed, will act as a stretching/ rolling/ warm-up area, allowing us to fully use the training floor for sessions as well as allow us to offer other classes that can use that space during training hours.

Last but not least we are back to making our own shakes!!! For those of you who never knew NorthStar’s original shakes, they are back, better than ever and consistently delicious.

Again, welcome to the new NorthStar Sports on Rt. 55. Please bear with our appearance for a short time while we complete our renovations.

In our 6th year of training the Hudson Valley’s most committed and talented athletes, we have accrued quite a list of athletes who have worked their way to successful careers at the collegiate and professional levels.

We are proud of our athletes for having the courage and putting forth the effort necessary to achieve their goals. It takes more than the thought or even the ‘want’ to reach the highest level. There is a certain passion, sacrifice, and willingness for vulnerability in order to put yourself out beyond your comfort zone and take that step facing a higher level of competition.

These NorthStar athletes have shown those qualities and have made a name for themselves beyond the tiny realm that is the Hudson Valley.

GOODLUCK THIS WEEK IN THE SECTIONAL FINALS

“WE DONT RISE TO THE LEVEL OF OUR EXPECTATIONS… WE FALL TO THE LEVEL OF OUR TRAINING“

- Archilochus -

Each summer NorthStar Sports hosts groups of high school football players looking to elevate their game to the next level. Every team enters the coming season with goals of winning a sectional title. We are proud to say that a FOUR of our athletes’ teams will be competing to fulfill that goal this coming Saturday and Sunday. Not only do our guys play for their respective teams… they are leaders, contributors and game changers!

Our Lady of Lourdes who is lead by players like Devlin Brennan, Ethan Bledsoe, Nick Stufano, Sam Hickey and Chris Keenan, who train year round at NorthStar Sports, will be hitting the field to play for the Section 1 Class B Championship on Saturday at Mahopac High School. Kickoff is at 5 p.m against Croton.

John Jay- East Fishkill who has had an amazing season, dropping only one game all year, is lead by Bobby Henderson, Gino Ruotollo and Trevor Smith all of whom put in the work this past off-season at NorthStar. They will compete for the Section 1 Class AA Championship on Sunday at Mahopac at 1 p.m.

Poughkeepsie High School, alma mater of our owner Jerry North, has out ran every team they faced this season. We are honored to have had the chance to work with many of the Pioneers at the Charles Spencer Jr. 1st Annual Football Clinic this past July. They will face John Jay- Cross River this coming Sunday for the Section 1 Class A Championship at Mahopac High School at 4:30 p.m.

Spackenkill High School brought an energetic and hard working group to NorthStar this past summer. Lead by TE Josh Riley and his crew, they took that intensity to the field going undefeated this season and earning a spot in the Section 9 Class B Championship game on Saturday, November 5 at 7 p.m. at Dietz Stadium.
