This year, the king held his thrown… Curtis Walker strolled into the NorthStar Sports’ new facility in Page Park holding off some of the stiffest competition to date (it took a tie breaker with Dan Faison) to be named the 2012 NorthStar Sports ‘Athlete of the Year’ for the 2nd straight time.
With a new competition format that tested each athlete’s will to battle on, the group was challenged with more than just the Vertical Jump, 300 yard shuttle, bench press reps and the like. 4 ‘obstacle’ style courses were created to challenge upper body strength and stability, agility and stability, conditioning and core strength, and explosiveness and lower body strength.
27 Athletes arrived ready to get after it. Little did they know that the day would start off with a 10 minute run outside in the chilly January air. Nothing like leveling the playing field with a good cold weather run. From there the madness began, extending through 2 hours of fierce competition that sent some to the floor and others to the restroom.
We ended the day with a celebratory meal, thanks to the ever-delicious culinary work of Rossi’s Deli. It was certainly a fitting end to what has turned out to be a HUGE month for the NorthStar Sports family. The new facility is finally taking its shape, ready to give the athlete’s of the Hudson Valley elite performance training in a facility designed to shape the best.
